Nuvali: The Future Makati of The South
a couple of big real estate developments are currently brewing in the south. one of which is ayala land's nuvali project. it is vast, around 1,700 hectares, according to their website. some shops and restaurants are already open in their commercial hub, solenad. and these days, they have bazaars on weekends to attract more passersby, mostly those going to and from tagaytay city.
if not for the rain yesterday afternoon, our visit would have been perfect. we first checked out the model houses at the avida estates and avida village projects. we would have wanted to see avida settings, but the heavy downpour stopped us. good thing i was able to take pictures while the weather was still good.
while there, we had a late lunch at yellow cab. we ordered manhattan meatlovers pizza, spaghetti & meatballs, and fleet starters (wings, chips and wedges). they were yummy, super! it was the first time i actually had a meal inside their restaurant and tried their delectable food. we spent P1460, but i tell you, the food was value for money.
after our visit, my hubs and i are seriously considering purchasing a lot at either avida estates or avida settings, wherever our budget fits. we're thinking of a lot only as we already have a condo here in manila. we can either sell the lot for a good profit, or have our house built there in the future. since nuvali is an ayala project, we know it's going to be a great development.
here are some pictures for your appreciation...
the interiors,

this is what a turn-over unit looks like,
the different exteriors,
my hubs timed our travel back to manila and it took us an hour and a half to reach our house. traffic was mild in slex all the way to c5.
i hope we get our dream lot soon. wish us luck!

Total Entertainment at Eton Centris
we were on our way to sampaloc one day to check out this sta claus factory we saw advertised on tv. then i suddenly saw these white flat disks jutting out of the sky at the intersection of quezon avenue and edsa. it was magnificent. what a great architecture! it reminded me of the great frank lloyd wright's columns inside the johnson wax administration building in wisconsin, usa.
if you still haven't been to eton centris, try going one of these days. it's a great place to unwind, entertain foreign guests, or have fun with family and friends. a waiter at clawdaddy informed us that the disks look even better at night 'coz they light up in different colors. i'd love to go back to see that.
we saw quite a number of restaurants already open for business. so you surely won't go home hungry once you go for a visit. moreover, there are a lot of attractions currently being built. there is definitely more to look forward to on our next visit. i think it'll compete with bonifacio high street once completed.
here are some pictures i took...

i am so excited for this eton project. it will surely help boost local tourism. let's us patronize these types of developments so that investors won't cease to invest and help create a more beautiful and entertaining philippines.

One Rainy Night at Chocolate Kiss
after a hectic day today, hubs and i decided to go to up diliman for some isaw. we just love having isaw at mang larry's (across kalayaan dormitory). it's clean, delicious and cheap. the crowd is always a mix of the iskos/iskas, jologs, sosi, and conios from the three major universities in diliman.
then it's sort of a habit of ours that after having isaw, we go directly to the chocolate kiss for dinner. but on this night, hubs and i felt quite full so we decided to ditch dinner and just have some tea and cakes.
we both had hot tea..
while jouie ordered carrot cake,
and i had my devil's food cake.
the cakes were really good. but i have to mention that i liked the devil's food cake the most. it was moist and not too sweet. the icing also blended well with the chocolate cake. the carrot cake was a bit tough on the sides. i don't know why. but the inside was quite moist. the icing also tasted really good.
it's no wonder the chocolate kiss cafe has been in business for more than ten years. their food are oh-so-yummy you'll also forget you're on a diet!

Mrs Polly's Chocolate Cake
i am a sucker for chocolates... cakes, ice cream, chocolate bars, drinks, and the list goes on. my knees seem to wiggle with excitement everytime i see chocolates. and my mind never ceases to think about it until i've tasted and let the chocolate linger in my mouth for just a little bit more before taking it all in. hay... chocolates!
yesterday, i felt like celebrating because my application to this new company i've been dreaming for years (no kidding) has finally set their eyes on me (yoohoo!). i'm now on the final leg of the hiring process so i'm praying, praying, praying that everything else goes smoothly. so there i was at robinsons galleria checking out the new issue of moneysense magazine. after buying the mag, i suddenly remembered that mrs polly's has a branch at the fourth level. so up i went.
one round chocolate cake with caramel filling (7in, P310) please?.... ding, ding... off with my purchase...happiness!
it was the first time that week that i was excited to go home.
mrs polly's chocolate cake must be the most awarded dessert i've encountered so far. once you have tasted THIS chocolate cake, you'll know why. the first time i tasted it, i couldn't stop eating. remember pringles' tagline "once you pop, you can't stop"? that was exactly what it felt like.
the chocolate cake is rich, not too sweet, and has a very smooth texture. once you see one, you'll think it plain and not tasty. well my friend, don't be fooled by its appearance. trust me, you'd be surprised. when i eat it, i simply let each slice stand in my tongue for thirty secs or so, enjoy it's rich and flavourful taste, then slide it in. gotta stop before i start drooling..
well if you're not a chocoholic, you can try their other cakes: gateau plum, food for the gods, cookie dough cheesecake, date walnut bars, peach walnut pavlova, no-bake blueberry cheesecake, crisp-top apple pie, chiffon cake, fruitcake, bread pudding, mango torte, banana cupcakes with walnuts, crema de fruta, brown derby, mango cream layer cake, sans rival and carrot cake. but please call their branch first before going so you're sure your favorite cake is available.
bon appetit!

Pastillas de Pili
we were in bicol a few weeks ago. while there, i bought some fresh pili nuts to take back home to manila. different types of sweet native delicacies can be made with pili like yema (custard candy), pastillas (milk candy), and polvoron (powdered milk candy) -- just to name a few. this nut is very versatile, and not to mention delicious even when eaten raw.
last tuesday, i woke up with this sudden urge to make pastillas de pili. so after serving my son his breakfast of oats with fresh fruits, i cleaned up the house as fast as i could so that i'll have enough time to make my pastillas before lunch time.
i don't want to keep you guessing. just in case you want to make some for your family, below were the ingredients i used:

beaten fresh eggs |

sweetened condensed milk |

ground pili |

white sugar |
simply combine and cook the above items, except for the white sugar. may i suggest that you chill your cooked egg-milk-pili concoction first before rolling them. chilling the mixture makes rolling the pastillas a lot easier. trust me on this.
chill the pastillas for an hour or so. then form round shapes, about a tablespoon each, using the palm of your hands before rolling them over the white sugar. dump in 3/4 or 1 oz colored paper cups.
here's the final product...
looks simply irresistible. bon appetit!

Naga & Daet: Caramel Bakeshop
if you happen to be in Naga City or Daet in Cam Sur, don't forget to drop by Caramel Bakeshop. their cakes and pastries are oh-so-yummy!
i liked most specially the assorted polvoron (P85/17pcs) and pili yema (P110/12pcs) we bought. they tasted light to the tastebud. not too sweet so very tempting to munch on one polvoron or yema after another. everyone in the office i've given samples to liked them as well.
i took note of their interior design. very tastefully decorated i must stay. i even took a picture of their mezzanine ceiling which i found very interesting. one would very much want to be seen inside their bakeshop as the interior decoration was really done well.
here are photos of some of their celebration cakes. who wouldn't want these??
and for cake lovers like moi, i would love to take this cake-filled chiller home. their caramel cake is a bestseller. yum-yum!
and here is their menu.. just to give you an idea of what they offer and how much you should expect to pay for their delectable meals.
and should you happen to be a backpacker, a student or a regular customer on a tight budget, you can choose from their jumbo meals or student meals.
